The indefinite strike declared by the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to protest the fuel pump price increase suffered serious setback in Edo state on Thursday, as workers in the state public service shunned the sit at home order of the labour leaders and resumed work at their duty post.‎
The workers apparently heeded the warning of the State Head of Service, Mrs. Idahor Gladys, who in a press statement on Wednesday, May 18, said the government would not hesitate to invoke the ‘no work no pay’ rule for any worker that joined the strike action, adding that the strike action was illegal.‎
Workers were seen at their respective duty posts at the various ministries visited.
Some faction Labour leaders in the state, led by Emmanuel Ademokun, merely walked through two major street of the town in protest.
Ademokun, who insisted that the strike continues even though workers were at work, appealed for artisans to join in the protest.
The situation was however different at some public schools as pupils were sent away for the second day, an indication that teachers defied the state government order to resume work.
Meanwhile, the industrial action embarked on by the NLC has recorded low turnout in most states, though some parts of Enugu, Oyo, Ondo and Lagos state joined the protest, the strike was considered a failure in Anambra Rivers Bauchi Yobe Adamawa  and Jigawa state.
